Conservation Commission

Mission

The Conservation Commission is the official agency specifically charged with the protection of natural resources in the Town of Millis. In 1972 Conservation Commissions were authorized to administer the State Wetlands Protection Act (M.G.L. Ch 131 sec. 40), the first act of its kind in the nation. Additionally, the Conservation Commission is charged with administering the Town's Wetland Protection Bylaw (Article XIX). Any work that involves removing, filling, dredging or altering an area within 100 feet of a wetland, or within 200 feet of any perennial river or stream, flood zone or other protected area, requires filing with the Conservation Commission.

Note: If you are planning any landscaping, building, or work within 100' of a wetland or 200' of a stream, please contact the Commission to determine whether you will need a permit. Please call or email before breaking ground or cutting any trees.
