Certificate of Compliance- MGL Ch 148 sec 26f, 25f1/2
When selling a home in Massachusetts the homeowner must request an inspection from the fire department before closing. This certifies that the property has been equipped with approved smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide alarms and was found to be in compliance with MGL 148.
The fee for this inspection is $20 and must be paid at the Town Hall in the Tax Collectors office. A certificate of Good Standing will be issued and then the homeowner may schedule an inspection with the Millis Fire Department. Inspections are performed Monday thru Saturday 8am-6pm. Most homes require a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector on each livable floor. Carbon Monoxide detectors are required to be within 10 feet of all bedrooms.
A Town of Millis bylaw requires that each home has house numbers on the front of the home near the front door. The size requirement is 3 inches.
