Oak Grove Farm

Department :History
Type :General

In the 1880s a prominent and successful railroad magnate from Boston, Lansing Millis, Esquire, chose this site for his summer home where he built a mansion and a large dairy farm and bottling works which were prosperous and popular in the decade. (The land was first farmed in 1677.) Mr. Millis became active in civic affairs and was so admired by the populace that when this area took the action to become a town by itself, it was named in honor of Lansing Millis. The present structure is the farm house with the grove of oaks nearby which gave it the name Oak Grove Farm. The mansion and other farm buildings have been lost by fire or deterioration.
