The Millis Social Day Program is specifically designed to promote and enhance the social, physical and cognitive skills of elders. It is an opportunity for caregivers, often "on the job" 24 hours a day to have a well deserved respite, with the knowledge that their loved one is in a safe and supportive environment.
The Social Day Program is a social day setting, as opposed to an adult day health model, which is staffed by medical personnel. Our staff has a combined 20 years working experience working with elders and those with cognitive impairment. Participants benefit from a safe and supportive environment. Caregivers rest assured that their loved ones are safe and most importantly, enjoying their day. Potential participants must meet the program guidelines which include: ability to ambulate, able to attend to personal care needs, i.e. toileting, be willing to participate in activities and be non-combative.
Our Program is committed to maintaining the participant's independence while providing respite for caregivers. This program is for seniors who are experiencing mild to moderate cognitive difficulties and/or are isolated and would benefit from a social setting. A variety of opportunities are offered for individuals to socialize, develop new interests and enhance cognitive and physical skills. Program activities may include: reminiscing, special presentations, memory games, arts and crafts, word games, music, table games, movies, sing-a-longs and local outings.
The fee for the Program is $35.00 per day. Transportation and lunch are available for an additional fee. The fee may, if eligible, be all or partially waived for the clients of HESSCO Elder Services.
Free Trial Days are available for potential clients.
The program is by referral only. For more information call the Senior Center at 376-7051.
